Cybersecurity threats don’t have to be quite as scary with some of these tips and “tricks” from WorldView.
Being the last day of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, it felt fitting to talk about the scary landscape of cybersecurity threats. Our world has become so driven by technology that we don’t even realize how much we’ve opened our lives up to risk. From our PCs, to our mobile devices, to our house, car, and workplace riddled with items that make up the ‘Internet of Things’. There are so many conveniences that leave an open door for threats. I’m not saying you should fear your Roomba, but it’s important to understand how devices interact, how they connect to the internet, the type of information they store, how data is transmitted, and how to keep that information safe.
Be sure you are keeping your machine clean. No matter the device, if it connects to the internet, inspect it consistently and make sure it is free of viruses and malware. Update your software regularly and properly secure your wireless network. Here are a few more tips and “tricks” to keep in mind on All Hallows’ Eve and all year round:
Just like your trick or treat bag – inspect your emails for phishing links and malicious attachments
Just like stranger danger – don’t expose sensitive information to unknown, unauthorized people
Just like the unlit house – don’t approach untrusted, unknown sites
Just like costumes hide identities – not everyone is who they say they are – validate and verify
Just like leaving an unattended bowl of candy – the unsavory will take everything they can get their hands on and use for their own personal gain

Coming off the 2018 NAHC Conference and their theme of authentic leadership, I wanted to discuss what being a true leader meant to our team. So, after some insightful and fun conversations around how our leaders operate and what shaped their style, I thought I’d share with all of you.
These are all words our team feels make up a true leader. Someone who is unshakable, yet still pliable. Steadfast enough to hunker down and execute, yet fluid in their approach and adaptation. Being bold, yet intentional. Sometimes it is difficult to understand the ingredients that make up that secret sauce: some serious focus, a whole lot of strength, even more gratitude, and a pinch of moxie.
We swapped war stories of tough projects. Joked about the tidbits gleaned from management books on ‘Dealing with People You Can’t Stand’ or ‘Winning Friends and Influencing People’. What we realized is, that depending on the project or the team, our approach shifts. There have been times we needed to be at the frontline going into battle, times we stood side by side, and times we took a backseat. We lend a helping hand wherever our team needs us, but lead, no matter from what position. We manage changing variables on the surface, lead at the core. Through our actions, through our words, through our demeanor.
We all know we need to be able to take a step back to understand the project at hand and the dynamic of the people we are working with. But, always remember that some of the most important facets of a high functioning team come from the environment. The environment we foster as leaders. We need to give our team the tools and set the stage. Create the climate to trust each other without question, to feel like they can be collaborative and make an impact, to support one another, to hold themselves and each other accountable, and to be unencumbered by selfish ambition.
I asked Marc, our CIO, about his favorite leadership quote. His response was, “You know that scene in Coach Carter where Samuel L. Jackson walks into the gym and to the team at their desks? The part where one student gives a speech about our deepest fear being the fact that we are powerful beyond measure? That whole quote.” Well, I went back to my own desk and did a quick YouTube search for that scene and I’d highly recommend you take a minute of your day to do the same. It’s a good one. I’d go as far as to say it was one of the most impactful quotes I’ve heard in a while, and the coach wasn’t even the person who delivered the message. It was one of his players. True leadership emboldens people to be better, do better; on and off the court, in and outside of the office. True leaders don’t change work performance, they change people. They broaden and elevate the interests of their following. Leaders breed leaders.

Companies are constantly on the lookout for an edge above the competition. Often the focus for finding that edge is on external variables: garnering additional marketplace awareness, providing a better customer experience, raising service levels, etc. But, sometimes the more mundane, internal processesget overlooked as we continue to focus on raising that bar. One department that often gets turned a blind eye is the Human Resources Department.
HR has always traditionally had very manual processes for receiving information, reviewing documentation, inputting data, and record keeping.Keeping track of expense reports, routing applications and resumes, maintaining employee assessments and the like through traditional means isn’t the norm in today’s business landscape. Companies are getting smarter and applying technology in order to work that way.
For companies of any size or at any stage of growth, cloud-based documentation within HR offers distinct advantages. We’ll go over three here.
Cloud-based HR streamlines a myriad of documentation needs, in addition to being flexible and accessible. HR departments that embrace cloud-based technology become, in a word, agile. Employees and candidates can upload documents into one central repository, managers can review cover letters and resumes faster from any location, and other documentation gets processed in a self-service environment, increasing speed and flow.
When HR workflows become automated, employees on both the sending and receiving ends have more time available to do the work they were hired for. They are no longer tracking and playing the follow-up game to figure out where things are.Going paperless, automating your manual processes, and storing your sensitive information in a secure environment with tracking and credentialed access does more than just create time savings and a central, trackable location for what used to be filing cabinets of paperwork. It decreases openings for human error and gives you peace of mind.Letting technology play a hand in freeing up staff helps create a more strategic partner in your HR Department.
Innovation & Retention
In HR, you know all too well about how tough recruitment and engaging top talent can be. Along with autonomy, one of the most important job aspects to millennials (who make up the majority of recruitable talent in today’s job market), is being part of a company that is innovative and forward-thinking.Companies who understand how to invest in programs, people, and process to become innovative and use advancing technologies continue to be more and more popular amongst jobseekers. With rapid growth in cloud technology affecting more areas of the business, it’s only natural that a higher level of functionality the cloud offers has become the expected norm.
Even if you aren’t ready to do make an investment to move everything to a cloud solution, taking the time to assess what your HR Department could look like with a few tweaks could be well worth your time.Finding a consultative partner like WorldView to help you through that is a great starting point towards building a strategic plan to get you to that next level.

Do you have plans to make more forms internet friendly? Our E-Forms Product Module at WorldView has the ability to streamline data collection to organization and management. It partners well with our Workflow Product Module.
Our E-Forms Product Module gives you the ability to complete and submit HTML forms directly into our document management system. These forms eliminate the need for piles of paperwork and forms, scanning, and importing. Old E-forms translated into information being sent securely to your email. You then had to enter into the appropriate databases. Today, we have the capability of eliminating the middle step.
When our customized E-forms are used in conjunction with our Workflow Product Module, the submission of an E-form can trigger the start of a workflow management automated business process. Free up time for your staff, while they can still access the E-Forms to update tasks and information at the right time.
Finally, we recognize the importance of an audit trail across the board. Using WorldView E-Froms creates a complete audit trail of the entire workflow process. From data collection to organization and management.
